STAFF TRAINING

Fostering inclusion does not only involve installing accessible physical infrastructure. You will also need to address information and communication barriers and equip your staff with the technical know-hows to make a Person with Disabilities feel included.

Whether you are starting out on this exciting journey to make your workplace or facilities more inclusive or you are looking for more ways to be and do better, we are here to help.

From curating a contextualised session based on your organisation’s needs to creating materials that facilitates the integration of Persons with Disabilities, find out more about what we can offer by speaking to us.

CSR COLLABORATIONS

CSR has evolved and grown over the years; with new strategies emerging from everywhere, backed by big budgets. There is massive information about what you can do and how you should do it. And we hear you, it can be a terribly daunting task cutting through the clutter to find a solution that fulfils all your criteria.

We will walk with you through this journey, bringing along our experiences and expertise. The outcome? Co-creating something valuable and meaningful together for the disability sector, ensuring an effective, impactful and sustainable CSR initiative that goes beyond traditional methods of giving. That is why it is a collaboration; because it involves the efforts of both parties.

PAST CSR PROJECTS:

DBS Marina Regatta 2015

Society Staples was the community partner at DBS Bank’s annual flagship event, DBS Marina Regatta. Designing a new initiative called Paddle for Good, PWDs and non-dragon boaters had the chance to experience dragon boating using ergometer machines and fundraise too! For every one kilometre paddled, DBS donated SGD 100 to organisations that will use the funds to organise sports activities for PwDs.

ASEAN Para Games 2015

Leveraging on the festivities of ASEAN Para Games, we worked with Sport Singapore and organised a week long inclusive sports tryouts ranging from fitness bootcamps to Strongman related activities like tyre flips and car pull. Disability simulations were also conducted to raise awareness about the PWD community on a whole.

DBS Marina Regatta 2016

In the second edition of Paddle for Good, we continued with the experience of dragon boating on land, but with an added twist. Participants were able to literally experience either a visual impairment simulation or a deafness simulation where they get to walk in the shoes of an adaptive paddler racing in a dragon boat competition. For every simulation done, DBS donated $50 to organisations that supported persons with physical disability.

LUNCH TIME TALKS

It is a great shame if CSR efforts goes unnoticed, especially by staff who were not involved in the project. Our Lunch Time Talk is a quick and fuss free way to bring attention and social awareness to these staff of the impact your organisation is making to the disability sector.

If time permits, a quick simulation session can further intensify and deepen the understanding of the social mission that your organisation has set out to fulfil, spark interests and attract more volunteers to participate. This will be a more purposeful way to engage your colleagues.

DISABILITY SENSING

If talks and CSR initiatives do not fit your needs, this may be what you’re looking for.

Disability Sensing is a fully customised tour where you observe how other businesses maintain quality of their operations and revenue streams while keeping Persons with Disabilities meaningfully employed. Seeing is believing, may this tour spark new conversations and confidence for you to become an inclusive employer!

*Highly recommended for companies who wish to embark on inclusive employment.

PROGRAMMES

It started with a few staff and parents sharing with us their difficulties to find programme vendors who are willing to create inclusive activities for the community. Needless to say, we pulled together resources immediately, coupled with our experience and knowledge and started designing programmes for them.

Because every disability condition is different, we believe in aligning to your needs, instead of relying on cookie cutter templated programmes for your clients. Let us know your requirements, and we will do the rest of the work.

PAST PROGRAMMES:
– MINDS Me Too! Club

*Suitable for weekly social activities and day activity centers.

SHARING SESSIONS

If you’ve been noticing growing interest in areas like social entrepreneurship in your students, or simply wanting to shed light on disability issues in Singapore to inspire them to do good, look no further.

While in their respective polytechnics, co-founders Ryan and Debra were already actively doing their part for the community, from setting up the Deaf Dragonboat team to subsequently managing Society Staples. Leading by example, they demonstrate that it is never too young to start through these sessions. Topics can range from social entrepreneurship, taking the road less walked, and the disability sector.

EXCURSIONS

Learning within a multisensory environment has been known to effectively improve youths’ development of thinking and social skills.

In this specially curated programme, we ignite all five senses of your students as they visit social enterprises and see first-hand how they are approaching various disability gaps. Who knows? This may be the catalyst to spark off the next big idea.

Testimonials

Society Staples - Me Too Club logo

“When we first started in September 2017, our clients were apprehensive and unsure of what was expected of them. They could do the tasks after much coaxing, but still preferred to stay within their comfort zones. As the weeks went by, our clients challenged themselves to achieve various feats – we have seen clients tip toe and jump for the first time! They were visibly more confident in engaging in the physical activities. Other than clients, MTC volunteers and caregivers also benefitted from the knowledge shared by staff from Society Staples. Caregivers learnt methods to better engage their child/ward at home, and volunteers were given exposure training to learn.”

Julia Ng, Volunteer Coordinator, Me Too! Club (MTC)

“The experience has been a pleasant one due to close communication and feedback whenever possible to seek clarification and reduce information asymmetry. We would recommend Society Staples for the high level of service during the lead up to the event as well as the professionalism, patience and concern displayed by trainers in conducting the dragonboat activity. Do consider the Society Staples for their professionalism and good event management skills especially for people with special needs.”
