    Our Services Mobile background

Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) want to be socially Included, not just as a matter of compromise and accommodation from society. Social inclusion is not only about improving the physical infrastructure and providing support for their education, employment and independent living. They want to be included too in a more active manner, as they take the effort to remain connected to the community, society and nation.

Despite having high numbers of Voluntary Welfare Organizations addressing these needs through community integration, sports and leisure programmes and public education, there is a clear and urgent need to do more.

62% of PWDs do not feel included accepted or given opportunities to contribute to society

PWDs scored lower than the general population across all quality of life domains, particularly in the area of social support from friends

Even with higher level of independence, PWDs in open employment tended to feel discriminated against

This is where Society Staples step in to contribute and effect change. With the dream of progressing Singapore towards a more inclusive and cohesive country, each of our subsidiaries overcomes a different challenge and approaches a different initiative.

“Experiences Raise Awareness And Educate Society About PWDs, Changing Mindsets And Subsequently Behaviours”

The most significant challenge to inclusion and acceptance is the attitude of society rather than physical barriers. PWDs often feel that the public perceives them as having limited capabilities and contributions to society. In reality they aspire to lead meaningful and fulfilling lives, but most people have overlooked or even misinterpreted them.

Our Experiences seek to eliminate these barriers to understanding, communicating and getting along with others through activities that allow for doing good and gaining value back.

Society Staples engagement creates opportunities

“Engagement Creates Opportunities For PWDs, Increases Capabilities Of Private And Public Sector To Create Better Social Infrastructure For Them”

Attitudes towards PWDs improve with higher frequency of contact so we created our Engagement with the objective to increase social participation. Through inclusive programmes and events, we enable PWDs’ participation in activities such as sports, gatherings in the neighbourhood, volunteerism, and grassroots activities, or simply making them aware of disability services near them.

Ideally, they should be involved in the planning, outreach and decision-making processes, such as becoming role models to spread the awareness of services to peers, organising or facilitating events.

Our Engagement also serves the purpose of deepening the involvement of external stakeholders to be proactive in addressing issues faced by the PWD community, providing them with the skills and knowledge they require.

This path will not be an overnight change or an easy task, but Society Staples will never stop. We welcome anyone to join us in this journey!
