A GIANT GAME (JENGA)

Society Staples first conceptualised the inaugural Singapore Giant Games Festival back in 2016. Right now, Giant Games has become a familiar sight in many of the community events happening around Singapore.

The larger than life-size structure makes it easy for people of all ages and walks of life to play. Besides the ease of accessibility, our giant games are also modelled after childhood games which may bring back some fond memories in the process of building it.

The participants will have to solve interactive challenges to “earn” the parts and tools required to assemble the Giant Games. Once assembled, the games will be gift to social service organisations serving Persons With Disabilities.  If time permits, you could even teach them how to play those games!

Play has many benefits for Persons With Disabilities, one of which is that it builds up skills in fundamental movement and social functioning.

A BICYCLE

Only about one-third of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) engage in any kind of sports on a regular basis, mainly due to the lack of access and opportunities for participation. The number goes even lower for Persons With Developmental Disabilities (PWDDs).

In their teams, the participants will work their way to solve interactive challenges to “earn” the parts and tools required to assemble the bicycles.

With the resources earned, the teams will then assemble the bicycle that will be gift to social service organisations serving Persons With Disabilities. This way, PWDs can stay active and improve their gross mobility skills like balancing and hand eye coordination.

If time permits, you could even teach the beneficiaries how to ride those bicycles that you built!

EDUCATION:
Ease the admin and preparation workload of teachers by assisting them to put together resources necessary for the smooth delivery of lessons. Understand the function and importance of the tool you are making that helps students learn better in classrooms.

MONEY:
Financial literacy is one of the biggest challenges faced by Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PWDDs) and a huge obstacle to their employment prospects, especially for those trained in the food and beverage sector.

Design a fun and engaging session for PWDDs from a selected social service organisation and teach them the basics of identifying and counting dollars and coins.

Testimonials

Society Staples - NUS logo

“The team enjoyed the afternoon learning basic sign language and also better understood the difficulties the hearing impaired and visually impaired face on a day to day basis through the several exercises. Many of the feedback from the staff is that they would do it again. If any of my friends who are looking for a fuss-free and meaningful team building event, I would surely point them to Society Staples.”

“Kuddos to you guys on being so inspiring in building a cause that you believe in! I hope you will bring the message to as many people as possible so that our society can be more inclusive in the future. For me, personally, I learn more on Persons with Disability and it is very heartwarming to see a group of young people so passionate and dedicated to the cause of building a more inclusive society.”

Society Staples - TOUCH logo

“TOUCH Caregivers Support engaged Society Staples for our team bonding time and was treated to a suite of customised activities that were immensely enjoyable and catered to our objectives. Besides the fun we had with Dragon Boating and a “Blind Experience”, what struck us about our engagement with Society Staples was their professionalism and knowledge. Having done their homework, and coupled with innovative delivery, they helped us draw insights from these activities, and link them to our field of work, adding to the value of our learning. What a great way to broaden our horizons and enjoy ourselves at the same time!”

“We engaged Society Staples in recognition that they are a fantastic social enterprise doing great work in fostering inclusion for People with Disabilities, and we wanted to support their cause. Our high expectations of them were fully met. The end-to-end organisation and coordination was efficient, and their innovative dragon-boating activity was
really an eye-opener for the participants! It was not only a fun team-building activity, but it also helped everyone build empathy and understand the daily challenges of People with Disabilities at a deeper and personal level. ”

“Working with Society Staples has been pleasant and fulfilling – it was inspiring to see our participants and workshop facilitators coming so closely together for a
session of sharing and learning. This workshop helped to break the ice between our participants who joined our event as strangers but left as friends. For student or professional teams looking for a time of engagement and learning for a compelling cause, Debra, Ryan and the Society Staples team are the people to go to. For those thinking whether to partner with Society Staples, I suggest you to at least try a small session with them – their passion and energy will make you a convert.”
